The Sun and the Wind (A fable but insightful)

By Unknown The Sun and the Wind once had a quarrel as to which was the stronger. Each believed himself to be the more powerful. While they were arguing they saw a traveler walking along the country highway, wearing a great cloak."Here is a chance to test our strength," said the Wind; "let us see which of us is strong enough to make that traveler take off his cloak; the one who can do that shall be acknowledged the more powerful.""Agreed," said the Sun.Instantly the Wind began to blow; he puffed and tugged at the man's cloak, and raised a storm of hail and rain, to beat at it. But the colder it grew and the more it stormed, the tighter the traveler held his cloak around him. The Wind could not get it off.Now it was the Sun's turn. He shone with all his beams on the man's shoulders. As it grew hotter and hotter, the man unfastened his cloak; then he threw it back; at last he took it off! The Sun had won.

The Donkey

By Donald Mytnik It was Palm Sunday. The crowd was cheering and laying palms and coats on the street. That donkey must have felt really special. Did the donkey think people were there celebrating him? He delivered God's Word made flesh to the people. Aren't we like the donkey? Even though we act like an ass, God uses us to deliver His Word to the people.

Holiday vs Holyday

By Donald Mytnik Holiday is a contraction of holy and day , holidays originally represented special religious days . This word has evolved in general usage to mean any extra special day of rest (as opposed to regular days of rest such as the weekend ). Countrywide Holidays stands for when everybody plans for holidays or a break. Under many belief systems, days of rest are necessary for ritual or spiritual rejuvenation. Holy days originated in the Bible as 7 annual Holy Days the Jews or children of Israel were commanded to keep as instructed by Moses (who received it from the Lord or Yahweh (the Eternal One)). Outlined in Leviticus 23 are the 7 annual Holy Days that were to be kept. The word holi-day has replaced "Holy-Day" in todays English. Today the U.S. Government is trying to eliminate the word Holiday and replace it with words like recess,relaxation and Winter break .
